BOBBY BEAUSOLEIL AND THE FREEDOM ORCHESTRA: LUCIFER RISING SOUNDTRACK (1981)
“”Robert Kenneth “Bobby” Beausoleil (born November 6, 1947, in Santa Barbara, California) is a convicted American murderer and associate of the Charles Manson “Family” who is serving a life sentence. He killed music teacher and fellow associate Gary Hinman on July 27, 1969, and has been imprisoned since his arrest for that crime. He was an aspiring musician and actor at the time that he murdered Hinman.”
“In the late 1970s, with the permission of the prison, he composed and recorded the soundtrack for Kenneth Anger’s movie Lucifer Rising after Anger’s first choice, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, couldn’t manage to deliver enough music for the film after three years of waiting, according to Anger…”

Philosopher, seeker after the truth, reconciler of science and religion, teacher, guru to artists, writers and musicians, Gurdjieff was an enigmatic figure; even his birthdate is uncertain: 1866 or 1877. He taught movements “to alter or heighten consciousness” at his Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man, located outside Paris—-a highly improvisatory process for which he composed equally improvisatory music. Technically untrained, he depended on skilled assistants to realize and write down his ideas, and found one in a devoted disciple: Ukranian pianist/composer Thomas de Hartmann, who selflessly suspended his own career and, after Gurdjieff’s death in 1948, privately published and recorded some of their collaborations. As a composer, Gurdjieff, born at the border of Armenia and Turkey, was influenced by the region’s ethnic and cultural diversity, by his childhood memories of the religious and philosophical songs improvised by his father, a Greek troubadour, by the hymns of the Greek Orthodox Church, and by his extensive travels through Europe and Asia. For this recording, the performers themselves arranged his compositions for cello and piano, adding five pieces by pianist Tsabropoulos, including three based on Byzantine hymns. Both players have been involved with Armenian, Ukranian and Greek Orthodox music; both are expert improvisers. Their strong feeling and affinity for the material allows them to approach it with both reverence and freedom; the playing is primarily subdued and inward. The piano texture ranges from delicate tinkling to full-blooded chords and arpeggios; the cello, playing mostly in the low and middle register, often in unison with the piano, sounds dark, warm and beautiful. The music, except for one lively dance, is slow, solemn, and mournful, in the minor mode. Melodies featuring oriental intervals are elaborated but not developed; based on single-note drones, harmonies are static or move in stepwise progressions but do not modulate. This lack of contrast and variety creates an otherworldly, disembodied atmosphere, despite several buildups of motion, dynamics, and intensity.
Recommended. Thanks for posting!
Lachrymarum - Stan Douglas
This, from the re-imagining by Stan Douglas (with John Medeski and Scott Harding) of the soundtrack for the Italian horror film Suspiria, is scientifically-proven to be the scariest song ever.
Feel free to use it to keep trick-or-treaters away.
Great movie, great tune.

The 2009 VMAs: The Occult Mega-Ritual
- From unexpected drama to shocking performances, MTV’s 2009 Video Music Awards managed once again to raise eyebrows and get people talking. What most people however missed is the occult meanings encoded into the VMAs. The TV event was in fact a large scale occult ceremony, complete with an initiation, a prayer and even a blood sacrifice. We’ll look at the symbolism that went on during the show…
- Pentagrams, goat heads, the Church of Satan. Don Rimer knows a lot about such things.
- The retired Beach police detective is an expert on occult crime and has been called by Virginia State Police to go to Farmville to help analyze the deaths of four people whose bodies were discovered Sept. 18 in the small college town west of Richmond.
- Richard Alden Samuel McCroskey III, 20, of Castro Valley, Calif., was arrested Sept. 19 at Richmond International Airport and has been charged in the killings of his girlfriend, Emma Niederbrock, 16; her parents, Longwood University professor Debra Kelley and estranged husband Mark Niederbrock, and Emma’s friend Melanie Wells, 18.
- Their bodies were found in Debra Kelley’s house in Farmville. A week before their deaths, the four victims had gone to a music festival in Michigan that featured “horrorcore” artists performing music about raping, killing and mutilating people.
- “This isn’t the first crime where people have died because of getting involved in things that deal with dangerous elements,” Rimer said. “Unfortunately, the girls were involved in a very dangerous kind of music. This is not your routine heavy metal… really way beyond Marilyn Manson or that kind of thing.”
- Rimer, 63, retired from the Police Department in 2005 after 33 years. Since then, he has trained law enforcement agencies and spoken publicly about ritual crime and the occult. He first got interested in 1986, when Virginia Beach experienced some grave robberies and animal mutilations.
- Rimer will be part of occult training in Virginia Beach for law enforcement officers next month, which was scheduled prior to the slayings in Farmville.
- In the Farmville case, as a rapper with the stage name “Syko Sam,” McCroskey had recorded songs about killing people.
- He told a cab driver who took him to the Richmond airport that he had looked at Emma Niederbrock’s phone while he was visiting and became angry after seeing a text message from another performer who told her he loved her, The Associated Press reported Saturday.
- Andres Shrim, owner of Serial Killin Records in Rio Rancho, N.M., contacted Farmville police on Sept. 18 and told them he believed McCroskey could be responsible for homicides.
- Rimer has looked at the Web sites of Serial Killin Records, also known as SKR, and said the content is relevant to the investigation.
- A flier for the “Strictly for the Wicked” festival in Michigan shows a goat’s head and “666” in a pentagram.
- “The images that immediately stood out were the pentagram, which is the international symbol of the Church of Satan,” he said. “That’s the poster for the concert that mom and dad took the girls to.”
- A female artist promoted by SKR professes to be a Satanist. Her MySpace page has an image of a human-looking figure ripping a fetus from its abdomen. The figure is wearing a crown with a pentagram and holding a spear with a head impaled on it. Web fliers indicate the artist was a performer at the Michigan festival.
- At this point, the only pop-cultural event that could possibly upstage Jay-Z’s new album, The Blueprint III, is Dan Brown’s new book, The Lost Symbol.
- But if Brown thinks he has the market cornered on Freemasonry and the occult, he had better watch his back. Mitch Horowitz, author of American Occult says that Jay-Z has a keen grasp of certain esoterica, especially in the music video for his new single, “Run This Town.”
- In an interview with Guy Raz, Horowitz pointed to Jay-Z’s use of the phrase “Peace God” as an allusion to the Five Percenters. Also known as the Nation of Gods and Earths, they teach that the original black man is God — and that all men are potentially God. “Peace God” is a typical Five Percenter greeting.
- “A phrase like ‘Peace God’ does not find its way into someone’s vernacular by accident,” Horowitz says. “He’s making a very definite statement.”
- Of course, Five Percent Nation teachings have had a deep impact on hip-hop for many years. Though not a Five Percenter himself, Jay-Z was born and bred in New York, the birthplace of the movement. So it’s common to find such references in rap.
- But Jay-Z’s connection to the occult may extend a bit further. In the making-of video for “Run This Town,” he’s pictured wearing a sweatshirt with the phrase “do what thou wilt” printed across the chest.
- “Yes, that has very deep roots in modern occult culture,” Horowitz says. “The full expression is ‘Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.’ That was one of the key maxims of the British occultist Aleister Crowley. So when Jay-Z appears in a hoodie with that phrase on it in public, that’s exactly what he’s referencing.”
